Facebook, Instagram are using your data to train AI: Learn how to protect it
Kurt "Cyberguy" Knutsson talks about how to protect your social media posts; a toddler getting trapped in a Tesla after the battery died. Meta may have paused its plans to train artificial intelligence models for the lucky ones living in Europe, where laws protect people using Facebook and Instagram better than Americans. Here in the good ole USA, both Facebook and Instagram have already been combing through public posts from U.S. accounts to train and improve its AI capabilities, including its chatbot, since last year. The proposed privacy policy update for European Union and U.K. users, originally scheduled for June 26, would have allowed Meta to use publicly shared content for AI training. However, users and regulatory agencies opposed this plan, leading to its indefinite postponement in those regions.

ChatGPT scams are the new crypto scams, Meta warns
As the buzz around ChatGPT and other generative AI increases, so has scammers' interest in the tech. In a new report published by Meta, the company says it's seen a sharp uptick in malware disguised as ChatGPT and similar AI software. In a statement, the company said that since March of 2023 alone, its researchers have discovered "ten malware families using ChatGPT and other similar themes to compromise accounts across the internet" and that it's blocked more than 1,000 malicious links from its platform. According to Meta, the scams often involve mobile apps or browser extensions posing as ChatGPT tools. And while in some cases the tools do offer some ChatGPT functionality, their real purpose is to steal their users' account credentials.
Attackers misuse ChatGPT's popularity to steal users' sensitive data: Report
The popularity of artificial intelligence firm OpenAI's ChatGPT has caught the attention of cyber attackers now. A recent report by cyber intelligence company CloudSEK has found that threat actors are taking over Facebook accounts and modifying them to appear like authentic ChatGPT page. Using this method, the attackers have been able to gather critical data on users, including personal identifiable information (PII), system information, and credit card details. The attackers use previously compromised data, phishing techniques, and stealer logs to infiltrate Facebook accounts. These Facebook accounts are modified to look like authentic ChatGPT-related pages, by naming them "ChatGPT OpenAI" and setting the ChatGPT image as the profile picture These compromised accounts are then used to distribute malware through different channels like Trello boards, Google Drive, and individual websites embedded in Facebook ads.

Facebook accounts hijacked by new malicious ChatGPT Chrome extension
A trojanized version of the legitimate ChatGPT extension for Chrome is gaining popularity on the Chrome Web Store, accumulating over 9,000 downloads while stealing Facebook accounts. The extension is a copy of the legitimate popular add-on for Chrome named "ChatGPT for Google" that offers ChatGPT integration on search results. However, this malicious version includes additional code that attempts to steal Facebook session cookies. The publisher of the extension uploaded it to the Chrome Web Store on February 14, 2023, but only started promoting it using Google Search advertisements on March 14, 2023. Since then, it has had an average of a thousand installations per day.

Fake ChatGPT extensions want to steal your Facebook account
That Chrome extension you downloaded to add ChatGPT integration to Google results may not be the legitimate one--and it could cause you to lose access to your Facebook account. Until earlier today, a malware copy of the "ChatGPT for Google" extension that stole Facebook session cookies could be found in the Chrome Web Store, allowing hackers to infiltrate accounts and lock users out. Discovered by security firm Guardio Labs and reported by BleepingComputer, the false extension leveraged the Chrome Extension API to sniff out active Facebook cookies and sent the pilfered data to the attacker's server. Hackers then logged into Facebook, changed the account credentials, and converted profiles to that of a false persona named "Lily Collins." These zombie accounts were used to spread malicious advertising and extremist propaganda.

"All 533,000,000 Facebook records were just leaked for free," Alon Gal, chief technology officer at the Hudson Rock cybercrime intelligence firm, said Saturday on Twitter.
